Kids’ Activities on Adventure of the Seas

Meet Our kiddos:

Leah will be turning 9 in May and Noah turns 7 at the end of February so they were 8 and 6 on our cruise. They are used to vacationing at Lake Anna with friends and Myrtle Beach and St Pete Beach with family visiting grandparents. Our first big family vacation was Disney World in September 2022 so this was their first cruise and second big vacation. The kids ranked our cruise higher than the Disney Trip.

I listed their Top Picks below, linked items that we did at a port to my full post for that port and then listed activities on the ship below. This was the perfect first Ship for them to cruise on….not too big or overwhelming but enough for them to do. They loved exploring the different ports together as a family and also really liked being able to make friends and play with other kids. I hope sharing the activities that they enjoyed when were were cruising helps you plan your future family trip!

Adventure Ocean

Take your kids to Kids’ Club…for them and for you! When we explained Kids’ Club to our kids before leaving for our tip, their response was “ughhh so you’re going to leave us with a babysitter!!!!” After boarding, we went to the Muster Station, checked out the pool and ate lunch at the Windjammer. Then we stopped by Adventure Ocean to register the kids. The staff was really friendly and welcoming and it gave the kids a chance to see what it looked like and get to meet some of them. We did not take them to Kids’ Club the first night because we wanted to ease them into the trip and make sure they were starting to feel comfortable with being on the ship. Day 2 – After dinner, we mentioned that there were probably a lot of kids and asked the kids to give it a try reassuring them that if they really didn’t like it then we would not have them go back. They were there from about 8:00-10:00 pm and when we picked them up they had big smiles on their faces and couldn’t wait to tell us all about the games that they got to play. Day 3 – When we were getting ready for dinner, they asked if they could go back to Kids’ Club. Same result, picked them up and they were smiling and excited to tell us about the games and the kids that they met. Day 4 – We got back from Taino Bay early and some of the kids from Adventure Ocean were at the pool; they were really excited to play with them outside of the club. Getting ready for dinner, they begged to back to Kids’s Club but did want to make sure they could change into sneakers after dinner to play Gaga Ball. They really loved running into friends from Adventure Ocean at the pool or the beach and then getting to see them at Kid’s Club each night. It was also great for us, that simple 8:00-10:00 time slot gave us a chance to catch a show or grab a drink or two at the bar. We did opt to keep them late one night (probably until about 11:30 so we could do the Crazy Quest Game Show – which I highly recommend, don’t miss that! I believe it was about $30 for them to stay late.

The Perfect Storm

Even though we have Hershey Park Season Passes and are regulars at the water park all summer, our kids were both a little nervous to try out The Perfect Storm. On Day 2 of our trip we got up early, had breakfast at the Windjammer and grabbed loungers by the pool. Frank convinced them to try out the water slides by offering to go with them. Him and Noah went down them together (each in their own slide) and Noah loved it. Leah tried it next and was completely fine too. That was all it took…there were only a handful of kiddos doing the slides so we sat and watched them go down quite a few times before heading back to the pool. Leah ended up meeting a group of girls at Adventure Ocean that we were next to at Rainbow Beach and the pool later in the week and had a chance to get to know their family a little. By Day 7, we let her go with that friend group to the pool to the slides and back by their own as long as they stayed together. They loved time with friends and having that little bit of freedom. Noah had also made a friend in Adventure Ocean who he got to play with at Magen’s Bay and the pool so we took turns hanging out near the slides while him and his buddy went down them a few times.

Complimentary Ice Cream

What’s not to love! Leah was a big fan of the unlimited ice cream on Deck 11 by the pool. Noah is lactose free so he missed out there but our amazing MDR and Windjammer Staff made sure he was well taken care of when it came to dessert options.

Duck Hunting

This gave the kids something to do between shows and activities when we had a few minutes of time to kill. Leah found one on our balcony and one in the elevator. Noah found one in one of the viewing areas overlooking the Promenade and one on the windowsill at the bar on Deck 4.

Daily Complimentary Bracelet

“Collect a New Royal Rope” – each guest can collect one bracelet per day at no additional cost. Once on board, you can check the Daily Planner in the app for the time/location so you don’t miss it. There was usually a little line so plan for some wait time. Leah loved collecting these and was excited to take them to “Show and Share” at school when she got home.

Soft Archery

We spotted Soft Archery on our Daily Planner for Day 2 which was a cruising day for us and did notice it offered at least one other time. This was an inflatable set-up of targets that they organized on Deck 3. Noah was really excited to try it and since there were only a handful of kids he was able to take a few turns. Leah who was not at all interested even opted to try it twice.

Rock Climbing

Both of the kids wanted to try rock climbing but once we got up there and they got the shoes on, Noah got scared and backed out. Leah tried it and had fun with it but was a little intimidated doing it alongside adults. I think there was a specific time slot during our trip for kids to do it so next time we would make it a point to have her try it when they offer that instead.

Arcade

The Arcade did not make their list. They were so excited to go but were completely disappointed because several of the games did not work. Selfishly I love to play skee ball when they are off playing games and only one of those had the correct number of balls to roll, the others only had 3. It was a BUMMER.
