Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas

Day 5 of our Royal Caribbean Cruise on Adventure of the Seas brought us to Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas. Since this was a later docking at 11:00 am, we slept in and then went to the Main Dining Room for brunch. It was a nice change from the Windjammer and we enjoyed the french toast and the chicken and waffles. After breakfast, we stopped for lattes at Cafe Promenade and then went back to our room to sit out on the balcony and watch the ship pull into St Thomas. What a view! We loved seeing the other boats and the water was the prettiest we had seen out of our entire trip.

Taxi Details

Walking through the Crown Bay Center, we followed the taxi signs and hopped on an open truck taxi to Magens Bay. The taxi ride took about 20 minutes and was $15/per person one way. It was nice to be in an open truck because I think if we were in the back of a closed vehicle without air circulating we may have gotten car sick with the winding roads and really sharp turns. Our driver stopped at the entrance to collect cash from all of the passengers for Beach Access and then dropped us off next to Magens’ Bay Beach Bar, Cafe and Boutique. When we were ready to head back to the ship, we waited along the road by the Bar/Cafe where they split us into groups by Ship and radioed for taxis. It was only about a ten minute wait but we really got bit up standing under the Mangrove trees so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking bug spray to put on while you wait.

Magens Bay

Beach Access is $7/per adult; it was free admission for children under 12. In front of the bar/cafe, you could rent loungers and umbrellas (I believe it was $20/per lounger for the day). That area was really crowded so we walked pretty far to the left, down the beach. There was a picnic table in the shade under the trees where we put our stuff and we laid our towels out in the sand. We spent most of our day in the water using our inflatable rafts taking in the view. Magens Bay was stunning – white sand beach and clear turquoise water!

Magens’ Bay Beach Bar, Cafe and Boutique

We walked back to the Beach Bar to grab a drink and got in the line to order lunch at the window. I got the coconut shrimp, Frank ordered the mahi mahi tacos and the kids got chicken tenders and fries. Magens’ Bay Cafe Menu

Next Trip

The only thing we would do differently is remember to take that bug spray off the Ship with us.
